Bridging Gaps and Fostering Education: Insights from the Third Round of Joint Monitoring Visits

The primary objective of the third round of joint monitoring visits was to identify and address gaps, monitor changes and improvements, enhance access to education for conflict-affected children and adolescents, provide conflict-sensitive educational services, and strengthen coordination at the Local Government Area (LGA) level. The escalating needs and persistent gaps arising from the aftermath of the initiation and escalation of insurgency underscored the imperative for a third round of joint monitoring visits in LGAs distinct from those covered in the initial and second rounds.

The joint monitoring team, comprising representatives from the State Ministry of Education, State Universal Basic Education Board, State Agency for Mass Education, Education in Emergencies Working Group (EiEWG), and GOALPrime Organization Nigeria, undertook visits to 63 Schools across 21 Local Government Areas (LGAs) in the BAY States, specifically: Fune, Fika, Potiskum, Nguru, Yusufari, Jakusko, Yola South, Girei, Hong, Gombi, Guyuk, Song, Lamurde, MMC, Banki, Jere, Gwoza, Mafa, Kaga, Konduga and Magumeri LGAs. The monitoring team consisted of nine individuals from these agencies. The active participation of Education Secretaries in each LGA significantly contributed to the success of the monitoring process.

To facilitate the Joint Monitoring Visits, several strategic approaches were employed. This involved conducting Advocacy visits to engage with the Education Secretaries of the designated Local Government Areas (LGAs), performing on-site observations of the visited schools, engaging in discussions and meetings with key stakeholders such as Education Secretaries, school-based management committees (SBMCs), headteachers, teachers, learners (Head Boys and Head Girls), youth leaders, and parent-teacher associations (PTA).

A specialized Monitoring tool was meticulously developed and integrated into the Kobo Collect platform, tailored to suit the diverse categories of participants involved in the monitoring process. After the collection of responses, a rigorous analysis will be undertaken, culminating in the creation of a detailed and comprehensive report by our MEAL Team.

This monitoring initiative spanned 63 schools within the selected 21 LGAs of the BAY States. We are committed to enhancing the quality of education across these LGAs.

A better humanity is possible
