Empowering Communities: Strengthening Nutrition Initiatives in Borno State

Empowering Communities: Strengthening Nutrition Initiatives in Borno State

As part of a proactive initiative aimed at enhancing the nutritional well-being of communities in Borno State, we conducted comprehensive Community Management for Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) training sessions. These workshops were tailored for Community Nutrition Mobilizers, healthcare professionals, and their supervisors in the Damboa and Dikwa Local Government Areas (LGAs). This vital training program was made possible through the support of the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund (NHF), reinforcing our commitment to fostering healthier communities.

These training sessions were more than just instructional; they were collaborative learning experiences facilitated by dedicated experts. Facilitators from the State Primary Health Care Development Agency (SPHCDA) alongside our nutrition focal person shared their knowledge and insights, ensuring diverse perspectives and expertise enriched the training.

One of the distinctive features of this training was its emphasis on mainstreaming Gender-Based Violence (GBV), Gender, Disability Inclusion, and the Prevention of Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA) into nutrition programs. Recognizing the importance of inclusivity, these sessions were designed to address the unique needs and challenges faced by vulnerable populations. By integrating these essential elements into our nutrition initiatives, we aim to create programs that are not only effective but also empathetic and supportive.

At the heart of these training sessions were our dedicated Community Nutrition Mobilizers and healthcare professionals. By equipping them with advanced skills and knowledge, we empower them to serve their communities more effectively. These frontline workers play a vital role in ensuring that proper nutrition reaches those who need it the most. Through comprehensive training, they are better prepared to identify, address, and prevent acute malnutrition, ultimately saving lives and building a healthier future for Borno State.

As the training sessions concluded, a sense of purpose and determination filled the air. The knowledge gained and the strategies shared are not merely theoretical; they are actionable steps toward a brighter, healthier future. By investing in the education and skills of our community leaders and healthcare providers, we are sowing the seeds of sustainable change. This initiative is not a one-time event but a continuous effort to uplift communities, foster inclusivity, and enhance the quality of life for all.

The Community Management for Acute Malnutrition (CMAM) training sessions in Damboa and Dikwa LGAs mark a significant milestone in our mission to combat malnutrition and promote overall well-being. With the support of the Nigerian Humanitarian Fund and the dedication of our partners, we are creating a ripple effect of positive change, one that will resonate in the lives of countless individuals and families. Together, we move forward, empowered and inspired, towards a future where no one is left behind, and every community thrives.

A better humanity is possible
